Moxi®

Moxi® is a remarkable laser technology that can improve the skin’s texture and tone, leading to a brighter and more even complexion. Designed to treat all skin types, the Moxi® laser is optimal to revitalize the skin and treat pigmentation concerns. As the treatment requires minimal downtime and is more gentle than many alternatives, it is also the ideal laser treatment for younger patients who wish to refresh the skin’s appearance and prevent the future effects of aging.

How Does Moxi® Work?

The Moxi® laser is what is known as a non-ablative, fractional laser. The research-based technology works by heating the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin, to promote new cell growth and prompt the development of collagen and elastin. The new skin cells replace older ones that have become damaged due to age or sun exposure, minimizing skin discoloration and texture and reducing unwanted pigment.

The laser delivers the heat below the skin’s surface using a fractionated approach. Thousands of tiny channels are created that allow the heat to penetrate the tissue without damaging the surrounding skin. This decreases the skin’s recovery time compared to more invasive ablative lasers.

Moxi® has been specifically added to the laser services at Shine MD to treat:

  • Melasma
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation related to acne scarring
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation related to aggressive resurfacing treatment plans
  • Pigmented post-surgical scars, such as breast surgery scars
  • Areas darkened due to previous injury or sun damage

The Moxi® Laser is unique in that it improves the appearance of pigment while also improving the radiance of the skin. It can treat any area of the body, including the back, where post-inflammatory pigment from acne scarring can be difficult to target and treat. It has less downtime than a treatment such as Halo™, but it still has some associated post treatment skin changes.

Learn More About Moxi®

Before your Moxi® treatment begins, one of our trained staff members will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to improve your comfort level. You may also request the use of nitrous oxide or Pronox to further improve your patient experience.

During the treatment, you may experience a feeling of warmth on the skin as the laser is working. Your clinician will communicate with you to ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible. The treatment itself is quick, and only takes about thirty minutes.

The Moxi® laser has a minimal recovery period, and requires little to no downtime, depending on each individual’s healing response and comfort level. After a Moxi® treatment, you may experience some mild redness, discoloration, or warmth of the treated area for the first one to five days after the procedure.

The day after your treatment, your skin will most likely feel much drier than usual. As the skin continues to heal, the treatment area will darken and feel rough. After a few days, the dry skin will begin to fall away, revealing fresh, new skin underneath. While this laser has less intense skin changes than the Halo™ laser, skin changes can remain present for up to seven days depending on the intensity of the treatment.

While your healing will not impact your daily routine, you should consider your threshold for social downtime and understand that you may experience visible skin changes during healing. Each person’s comfort level with social interactions is different, and you should factor your lifestyle into your treatment expectations. The clinicians at Shine MD will happily customize your treatment plan based on your schedule and timeline.

Moxi® is safe and effective on all areas of the body and is commonly used to improve the appearance of the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands. The treatment can fade uneven pigmentation, including sunspots and age spots, and improve the skin’s tone and texture.

The Moxi laser has been effective in reducing the appearance of melasma and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and can be performed anywhere on the body where scarring is present. Not only does the treatment improve the appearance of the skin, but it also prevents the future development of signs of aging and maintains the skin’s health.

Depending on the condition of each individual’s skin and their treatment goals, multiple treatments may be recommended. For best results, most patients undergo a series of three to four Moxi® laser treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Results are often visible after only one treatment, but darker pigment or melasma will require multiple treatments to reach improvement goals.

Many patients also choose to have additional Moxi® treatments over time to maintain their results and manage the appearance of melasma and persistent sun spots. The results from the treatment are long-lasting and according to Sciton®, the manufacturer of Moxi®, studies conducted on the Moxi® laser include patients that were treated over 10 years ago.

The Moxi® laser is safe and effective on all skin types and can be used all over the body. Men and women who have signs of sun damage or skin aging make excellent candidates for this treatment. The treatment is also recommended for candidates with melasma, as it can improve the appearance of the condition without producing enough heat to trigger the development of hyperpigmentation.

Moxi® is also ideal for candidates who are just beginning their skincare journey and are looking for a treatment to refresh their skin with little to no downtime. If you regularly experience sun exposure and would like to prevent its effects on your skin, you may be a good candidate for Moxi®.
