How Does Platelet-Rich Plasma Work?
The liquid portion of our blood is called plasma. It transports proteins, nutrients, and hormones and carries the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets throughout the body. Platelets are a type of blood cell that is known for their clotting and healing abilities. Physicians can extract a small amount of blood and process it in a machine called a centrifuge, which separates the other components of the blood from the plasma and platelets, creating PRP.
The concentrated platelets can then be injected under the skin to stimulate cell reproduction and promote healing. The platelets release growth factors that cause cell renewal and the production of collagen and elastin in the treated area. This powerful combination can repair damaged tissue, fade the appearance of scars, improve the skin’s texture and vibrance, and stimulate hair growth.

Learn More About Platelet-Rich Plasma
Your PRP treatment will be customized based on your unique concerns and treatment goals. During your initial consultation, your physician will help you determine the treatment plan that would work best for you, and they may recommend combining platelet-rich plasma with another treatment option.
On the day of your appointment, your blood sample will be drawn in the clinic and collected in a small tube. Make sure to be well hydrated and nourished on treatment day. Approximately 30 ml of blood is drawn for the PRP treatment. The sample undergoes a spin cycle in our World PRP centrifuge machine using patented technology that purifies and concentrates the platelets. This process takes approximately fifteen minutes.
One of our clinicians will apply a topical anesthetic to the area and allow the skin to go numb. The purified sample is then injected under your skin for various applications such as facial rejuvenation, acne scarring, and hair growth. Depending on the size of the area and the type of treatment(s) performed, you can expect to be at the clinic for about thirty minutes to one hour.
PRP can be used to treat a variety of concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, textured, uneven skin, acne scars, damaged skin, and hair loss. By harnessing the power of the body’s natural healing process, PRP can stimulate cell regeneration, leading to improved skin tone and texture.
Depending on your unique concerns and treatment plan, multiple sessions may be recommended. As PRP injections promote natural healing, you may not notice your results immediately after treatment. Results will continue to develop over the next few months, and you should notice a visible improvement in the treated area. Platelet-rich plasma can be combined with other treatments, including microneedling, to create even more dramatic results.
You may be a good candidate for platelet-rich plasma if you have visible acne scars, dull or textured skin, or hair loss. As PRP injections require a blood draw, you should be in good overall health for this treatment. The best candidates for platelet-rich plasma treatments will have a positive outlook and realistic expectations for treatment results. Schedule a consultation with one of our experienced physicians to find out if platelet-rich plasma injections are the right treatment option for you.
