Laser Hair Removal

Unwanted facial or body hair can be frustrating and embarrassing. Traditional hair removal methods, like shaving and waxing, are effective, but they can be time-consuming, tedious, and require significant upkeep. Laser hair removal can give you the freedom and confidence of long-term, smooth, hairless skin.

How Does Forever Bare BBL™ Work to Remove Hair?

At Shine MD, we offer Forever Bare BBL™ laser hair removal therapy as a non-invasive, comfortable, and easy treatment for unwanted body hair. Forever Bare BBL™ directs intense pulses of light at unwanted hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, damaging the hair follicles and preventing new hair growth.

Our hair grows in phases, so individual strands complete their life cycles at different times. Laser hair removal can only treat hairs in their active growth phase. So, multiple treatments are required to ensure each follicle is properly treated.

After each treatment, the treated hair will begin to shed, and your hair loss will be most evident ten days to two weeks post-treatment. As the treated hair sheds, other hair follicles start their active growth phase, replacing the treated hair.

Treatment intervals will be approximately every 6-8 weeks to allow the skin to heal completely and the next cycle of hairs to begin their active phase. After 6-8 treatments, each strand will have been treated, and new hair follicles will stop growing in.

Learn More About Laser Hair Removal

Before your Forever Bare BBL™ treatment, you will be asked to avoid direct sun exposure for at least four weeks. You will also be asked to abstain from using self-tanning lotions. You should not wax, tweeze or use hair removal lotions for 2-4 weeks before the treatment, and the day before your treatment, you will need to shave the area to be treated with a razor. This may seem counterintuitive – but this step allows the laser to focus directly on the follicle, leaving the remaining skin unharmed.

On the day of your appointment, one of our staff members will guide you into a private room, where your skin will be prepped, and your treatment can begin. Laser hair removal is fast and simple. Your appointment time will vary depending on the size and number of areas being completed.

Forever Bare BBL’s™ innovative technology allows it to be a comfortable and effective hair removal laser. The laser’s handpiece contains a sapphire plate that provides continuous cooling to the skin, making the treatment much more comfortable. You may still experience a small amount of discomfort during the treatment and a feeling similar to a rubber band lightly snapping against the skin.

There is very minimal downtime and recovery after a laser hair removal treatment. After your treatment, you may experience some redness, burning, warmth, and a sunburned sensation that can last for a few hours. You can use Tylenol or Advil as needed and apply cool compresses to your skin.

For a few weeks after laser hair removal, your skin will be more sensitive to the sun, so if there is a chance of sun exposure, protect treated areas with a full spectrum sunblock with SPF 30 or higher.

Soon after a Forever Bare BBL™ treatment, the treated hairs begin to appear thicker. This is the hair’s normal reaction to the laser light energy it has absorbed. The hair then begins to shed, and hair loss will be most evident ten days to two weeks post-treatment. Treatments are typically completed every 6-8 weeks, and most patients notice visibly sparser hair after three treatments. Throughout the course of your treatments, you will notice your hair becomes thinner, lighter, and grows more slowly. Around three weeks after your final treatment, you will see your final results.

Your unwanted hair will be significantly reduced, leaving you with smooth, hairless skin. If any stray hairs appear over time, they will grow much finer and lighter than before your laser treatments. While the results from laser hair removal are long-lasting, you may choose to undergo further treatments periodically to maintain or touch up your results. Many patients choose to touch up their results with a laser hair removal treatment once a year.

Men and women with unwanted facial hair or body hair make excellent candidates for laser hair removal. Forever Bare BBL™ is safe and effective for all but the darkest skin types. Common treatment areas include the underarms, legs, upper lip, and bikini area, but Forever Bare BBL™ is safe to use on any body part.

Laser hair removal works best on candidates with pigmented hair and light to medium skin tones. Laser hair removal works because the pigment in the hair absorbs the light from the laser. There must be more pigment in the hair than in the skin for the laser to work correctly. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for this treatment is to come in for an in-person consultation with one of our team members.

*Individual results may vary.

Before Your Appointment
  • No direct sun exposure for at least four weeks prior to laser treatment. Do not tan or spend significant time in the sun without total sun barrier protection and the use of sunscreen. As much as one hour of direct sun is enough to postpone your treatment.
  • Do not use self tanning lotions for one month prior to your treatment.
  • If you use a hydroquinone based skin care product, do not use this on the day of your treatment.
  • Do not wax, tweeze or use hair removal lotions for 2-4 weeks prior to the treatment.
  • Please shave the area to be treated with a razor the day before your treatment. If you are unable to do so, your appointment may be rescheduled if the appropriate time is not allotted to account for skin preparation.
  • Please Note: Your treatment will not be performed if your provider is concerned about sun exposure or sun tan or if self tanners have been used prior to the treatment.
After Your Treatment
  • You may experience redness, burning, warmth and a sunburned sensation after your treatment that can last for a few hours post treatment. You can use Tylenol or Advil as needed and apply cool compresses to your skin.
  • You may take an oral antihistamine or apply topical hydrocortisone cream to the treatment area to alleviate any itching or irritation. Avoid scratching the area.
  • You may apply Vitamin E or Aloe Vera to the treatment area to soothe the skin after the treatment.
  • If there is a chance of sun exposure, protect treated areas with a full
spectrum sunblock with SPF 30 or higher during the course of your treatment series.
  • If you notice dark spots beneath the skin that look like blackheads, they are terminal hairs that will improve with exfoliation. Soak in warm water and exfoliate with a soft cloth.
  • New hair growth will usually begin in about three weeks. Remember not to wax, tweeze, thread, bleach or apply hair removal lotion at any time during treatment series. Wait until any redness subsides before shaving again.
  • Hair loss will be most evident ten days to two weeks post treatment.
  • Treatment intervals will be approximately every 4-6 weeks from the neck up and 6-8 weeks from the neck down.
